This spring is full of promise as the whole idea of outdoor living really takes off! As our homes seem to be getting smaller and our interior lives simplified there is a huge push to live outside and create not only seasonal space but year round outdoor living spaces that incorporate the needs of individuals and families. Have a look at some of the hottest emerging trends in outdoor space as outdoor living takes on a life of it's own for spring 2016. 1. Colour has always been at the forefront of gardens but this season the trend lends itself to the surrounding foliage. With bold backdrops from the colour of your house and fence, to a brightly painted arbour or gate we will begin to see self expression create a backdrop to the foliage in a less traditional way. More Veggies, Less Fleurs With Sustainability still a big buzz word and garden lovers looking for unique ways to work small backyard gardens to their fullest, the idea that flowers and veggies need to be separated has been thrown out the window. Not only do flowers and veggies compliment each other in the garden scape, but often by placing certain plants side by side you can ward of pests that avoid certain foliage and will be less likely to eat your heirloom tomatoes or leafy kale. A Garden the requires very little water and yet provides the backdrop to warm evenings and family BBQ’s is high on the Eco Families list of priorities for sustainable living.   Succulents Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 3.53.34 PM   4. Inside goes outside in a big way. Outdoor living spaces have been gaining momentum over the last few years, but now those spaces have really moved the inside outside. From outdoor kitchens, large dinning areas and cozy outdoor furniture the idea of the outdoor space has evolved into a seasonal lifestyle for taking advantage of the warmer months.   Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 3.56.41 PM   Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 3.56.21 PM   5. Making Childhood Memories. A space for kids to play, learn and thrive outdoors, more families are trying to recreate that nostalgic childhood experience by incorporating an outdoor world for kids. Tree houses, tire swings, canvas tents to sleep under the stars. A real focus on kids getting back to nature and the idea of play is key to this trend that we hope to see continue in years to come.A-Frametent   Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 4.10.16 PM   6. Bowser also takes centre stage this spring with areas that are created specifically for your four legged friend(s). Safe from poisonous plants, or harsh chemicals organic leads this charge with not only children's safety but also our furry household members. Creating a space for your dog to engage and explore while keeping him comfortable is key. Water features that double as cool flowing water for the dogs on those hot days, a place to dig, run, wrestle depending on your pets breed and needs. Remember to create a shady spot for fido to spend those dog days of summer out of the heat and keeping cool.
